Optimizing Urban Heat Health Action Plans: A Global Review and Capacity Building Initiative.

Dr. David Bishai is inviting all U21 Public Health Group members to attend a HKU SPH online event:
Optimizing Urban Heat Health Action Plans: A Global Review and Capacity Building Initiative.
This event will form a global consortium of public health practitioners, students, and teachers who want to convene their communities to stop preventable heat wave deaths.
Activity 1) Conduct a comprehensive review of existing municipal web-based HHAPs worldwide. This evidence-based assessment will provide insights into the effectiveness of these plans in mitigating heat-related health risks. The review will include in-depth quality assessment of municipal HHAPs in the world’s 800 largest cities. This analysis will identify the strengths and weaknesses of existing plans, compare different approaches, and assess their adaptability to local climatic and socio-economic conditions.
Activity 2) Based on these assessments, the project will establish a set of best practices and success factors drawn from the top 10% of cities with the most effective HHAPs. These best practices will serve as a benchmark for other cities striving to improve their heat health strategies and will be published in a user-friendly format for global distribution.
Activity 3) The project will develop training material for instructors to adopt in teaching students and public health professionals. This educational resource will outline the necessary steps to improve a local HHAP, incorporating the best practices identified. The teaching material is designed to build capacity at the local level, enabling cities to develop and implement more effective HHAPs that reduce heat wave mortality and enhance urban health resilience.
Please mark your calendar and join the call 11/26 at 9 am US Eastern Time/ 10pm Hong Kong Time. It’s a great opportunity to learn more and discuss how to work together to address heat as the largest cause of climate mortality.
